Table 1. Pharmacological activities of SALMFamide peptides on the apical muscle of starfishes Asterias amurensis and Patiria pectinifera
Tissue | A. amurensis | P. pectinifera |
TC (M) | Emax ± SEM (%) | TC (M) | Emax ± SEM (%) |
SALMFa-S1 | 10–8 | 19.92 ± 0.99 | 10–8 | 14.82 ± 1.38 |
SALMFa-S2 | 5 × 10–8 | 22.10 ± 2.77 | 5 × 10–8 | 13.61 ± 1.53 |
SALMFa-A | 10–8 | 11.41 ± 0.61 | 10–7 | 8.86 ± 0.90 |
SALMFa-B | 10–8 | 15.32 ± 0.98 | 10–8 | 14.00 ± 1.50 |
TC is the concentration at which each neuropeptide started to exert myoactivity. The Emax is based on the best-fit top value on a dose-depend curve constructed by the in vitro bioassay and estimated as a relative percentage of the muscle maximum contraction induced by acetylcholine 5 × 10–6 M on apical muscle. TC, threshold concentration; Emax, peptide efficacy.
